Thanks! –Gregg Transcription: “In this video, we’ll go over sending and receiving email, the different types of settings you could achieve, and the pros and cons of each. And let’s get straight to the point. If you remember, last time we talked about the three types of email, sending and receiving email, you know, which is basically, you know, a person sends an email to a person, and that email must be hosted somewhere. then the person you can send another email to the other person in response. And that email must also be hosted. It’s an email from one person to another. And that’s really what defines it. Let’s take a look here and go over a few concepts about send and receive email. Let’s review and define some topics you will need to know about to manage email with best practices for your WordPress websites and name usage. is custom domain. So if we think of domain names, a domain name itself is a quiet thing, right? I will use an example of calm in this video series. But when it comes to domain names, they are basically like the Yellow Pages directory. For the Internet, when someone types in a memorable domain name, like example.com, what happens is, you know, if someone goes to, you know, a web browser, and in the address bar at the top here, they type Example, com, what happens is, you know, that web browser goes to, you know, the internet in general, and it tries to look up what numerical IP address is represented by that domain name. And all of this happens in the background very quickly in a matter of milliseconds. But an IP address is a four digit number that looks like this, you know, 127.61.25, period seven with periods between each one. So once the browser retrieves that IP address, it takes the [user to the] IP adress. And that’s basically the definition of an internet location for a website or series of websites. And so that numerical number represents a location on the internet where the website lives. And here is the other arrow, what happens is that that browser navigates to the website server where there may be one website, or more than one website, there is more than one website, each of these on the same IP address it has a domain name associated with it. So the hosting server for that WordPress website, that website chooses the correct one, this is example.com. And then send that website code to the person’s browser. And yes, they can open the website. And they are happy. Now, let’s compare that to email. If we go to the next section here, on my iPad drawing, let’s say someone opens your email or web-based email program, like Gmail or something like that. And they type an email address, first they open, you know, a compose window, or they send an email to an email address. Now an email address has a domain name within it, as you know, so they send an email address to a name@example.com. And because that format is an email address, what happens with DNS or the domain name system on the Internet in general is that the DNS system will recognize it as an email, and not just a site address. normal web, like example.com. ”
